Long Creek, OR Information

Long Creek is a city in Grant County, Oregon, United States. The population was 197 at the 2010 census. The city is named after John Long, a prominent miner who came to Grant County in 1862 during the Canyon City rush of that same year. Located in a high valley of the Blue Mountains, ranching has been the principal enterprise for the area. Log harvesting was slowly curtailed in the nearby Malheur National Forest until the local mill was closed in 1998.

As of the census of 2010, there were 197 people, 84 households, and 52 families residing in the city. The population density was 193.1 inhabitants per square mile (74.6/km2). There were 112 housing units at an average density of 109.8 per square mile (42.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.4% White, 1.5% Native American, 0.5% from other races, and 3.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.6% of the population.

There were 84 households of which 28.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.6% had a male householder with no wife present, and 38.1% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.98.

The median age in the city was 47.2 years. 20.8% of residents were under the age of 18; 10.3% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 16.8% were from 25 to 44; 34% were from 45 to 64; and 18.3% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.
